Your Home Safety Checklist

Thanksgiving is a time for families and friends to gather together, which a lot of times means there is traveling involved. Last year, over 50 million people traveled the weekend of Thanksgiving. That’s 50 million people that are not staying in the comfort of their own home, therefore leaving it unattended.

The holiday season can bring its own stresses, but worrying about your home while visiting with loved ones should be the last of your worries. If you are one of the tens of millions of people in the U.S. that plan on traveling Thanksgiving weekend, make sure that your home is secure while you’re away with these helpful tips!

  1.  Remove Your Hidden Keys

It’s pretty normal for people to leave a hide-a-key somewhere outside of their home, but when taking off for an extended weekend, make sure to collect them. If someone is trying to break into your home, the easiest way for them to get in is with a key. Hidden keys are what burglars look for first.

  1. Have Someone Pick Up Your Mail

When you’re out of town for an extended period of time, nothing is more obvious than a big stack of newspaper on your doorstep, or a mailbox overflowing with mail. Before you leave, arrange  to have a friend or a trusted neighbor pick up your mail and newspaper to make it look like someone is home.

  1. Get a Home Security System Installed

When you get a home security system from AmeriGuard, it will almost feel like someone is at your home at all times. With your smartphone, you’ll be able to see what is happening at your home at all times. You’ll also have patrol officers ready at a moment’s notice if something does happen.

  1. Update Your Social Media Later

Though it may be hard to resist, try holding off on posting photos from your trip until after you get back home. Posting pictures of your trip when you’re away is an invitation for burglars to visit  your house. We promise that your friends and family will still enjoy your photos just as much if you post them when you get back!

So before you head out of town, give AmeriGuard a call to make sure your home is secure. We hope that you have a memorable Thanksgiving!
